ShopKnuckleheads: Three Arabian Nuts- 1951
News today from ShopKnuckleheads- An interesting trend started for The Three Stooges in the early 1950's.
Similar to the final release of 1950 'A Snitch in Time', the first release in 1951 unfolds in a two-part plot and casts the Stooges in a trade that conveys them to a house ripe for multi-room chases, although warehousing and Arabians replace carpentry and crooks, and scimitar swinging replaces gun play.
The biggest difference between the two films is the genie, or as Shemp says "the genius". Since magic tricks and comic coincidences come from the same aesthetic realm of belief and appearance, the car driven into the apartment in 'Slaphappy Sleuths' may have been a forerunner to the genie's presence as is Larry's miraculously carrying that huge crate by himself!
-Vernon Dent was perhaps the most recognizable foil in the Columbia Stooge short film Corpus. Born in California in 1895, he soon took to the theater and was working in film comedy by 1919. From 1923 he worked as a supporting player at the Mack Sennett Studios where he achieved a modicum of fame working in the Harry Langdon and Billy Bevan films, then proceeded to excel at playing the Stooge foil!
